Patrice Scott

Detroit, Michigan native Patrice Scott started DJ'ing in the '80s, inspired by enigmatic radio jock the Electrifying Mojo and his city's early techno and house scene. Major figures Ken Collier and Jeff Mills were among the fellow DJs whose paths he crossed while playing various clubs and events throughout the Motor City. At some point, Scott started making remixes, but he kept them to himself, and it wasn't until 2006 that he debuted with his own material. Like so many autonomous Detroit figures before him, Scott founded a label of his own, Sistrum Recordings, which he launched with the three-track Atmospheric Emotions EP. Fully developed, the tracks blended house and techno with subtle musicality and individual character, while its inspirations seemed to include Larry Heard, Moodymann, and Anthony "Shake" Shakir. Over the course of the next several years, Scott released new material at a steady but not bin-clogging rate, and he also used his label for releases by like-minded artists. In 2015, after a dozen 12" releases of his own for Sistrum, Scott issued an album, Euphonium.
