Olivia Foa'i

A native of Auckland, Olivia Foa'i is a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, and choreographer best known as a member of the long-running New Zealand group Te Vaka. The daughter of the band's leader, Opetaia Foa'i, she went on to make her feature film debut in Disney's Moana, lending vocals to songs co-written by her father, score composer Mark Mancina, and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda. Olivia Foa'i began dancing as a toddler, making her stage debut at the age of two. It wasn't long before she also started singing. Foa'i added songwriting to her skill set in 2010, and later uploaded a handful of cover songs to YouTube. A student of contemporary Polynesian dance, she also began choreographing for Te Vaka while in her teens. The first song she co-wrote with her father for Te Vaka, "Kofu O Lakau," appeared on 2011's Havili. Using the pseudonym Livy Clay, Foa'i released her debut solo single, "Never Let Me Be Myself Again," in late 2015. Having already appeared in music videos for Te Vaka, Foa'i made her screen-acting debut as the fictional band's drummer in the Australian short Band of Rock, released in October 2016. A few weeks later, her voice could be heard in theaters around the world in the Disney animated feature Moana. Credited as singer on three of the musical's songs, she received sole credit for the scene-setting "Tulou Tagaloa," and appeared on both the original motion picture soundtrack and the condensed Moana: The Songs, released in 2017.
