Obsequiae
An atmosphere-driven American metal group, Minnesota's Obsequiae employ an evocative amalgam of icy black metal and medieval folk, with elements of doom and death metal tossed in for good measure.
Founded in 2007 by Tanner Anderson (vocals, guitar, bass), Vicente La Camera Mariño (harp), and Neidhart von Reuental (drums, bass), the band issued an eponymous demo in 2009, which eventually led to a deal with Bindrune Recordings, the home of stylistic contemporaries like Panopticon and Falls of Rauros. Suspended in the Brume of Eos, the group's debut full-length effort, arrived in 2011 and marked the debut of new drummer Andrew Della Cagna. Obsequiae's sophomore long-player, the critically acclaimed Aria of Vernal Tombs, was released in 2015 via 20 Buck Spin. They continued to hone their unique blend of Hellenic black metal and early music on 2019's The Palms of Sorrowed Kings.
