Notes To Self

Canadian hip-hop collective Notes to Self grew from the collaborative efforts of MCs Swamp Donkey, Bronze One, and Roshin, along with DJ Dopey and writer/illustrator Elicser. Styled after classic golden age hip-hop crews like De La Soul and Hieroglyphics, the Notes to Self collective worked both individually and as a team in the production of various recordings, beginning with Bronze One's solo EP Just Add Water in 2003. Early highlights of the group's work included a virally popular Internet tribute to the late J Dilla in 2006 and a 2007 track that was runner-up in Toronto's 175th Anniversary City Anthem contest, as well as a growing profile as the group continued to share stages with groups like Talib Kweli, Dilated Peoples, and other larger hip-hop acts. The Warning Shots EP preceded their 2009 full-length debut, A Shot in the Dark, and both were met with critical praise and high charting on college radio. Over the next few years the group combined more visual elements into its musical catalog, including a T-shirt campaign and several vibrant videos and short films. Several singles circulated widely on the Internet in this time, gaining even more exposure for the troupe. Their second proper full-length, Target Market [Recoil], saw release in early 2013.
