MELON

Dutch DJ and producer MELON disguises his identity under a bright, anime-inspired mask resembling a smiling melon wedge, and his discography primarily consists of gleeful covers of pop and dance hits. The project's first album, the 51-song This Is MELON, Vol. 1 [Dance], appeared in 2023; concurrent with online trends, the tracks were also released in sped-up and slowed-down versions. MELON is affiliated with Strange Fruits, the Dutch dance label founded by Steve Void, which began releasing original tracks in 2017, often bearing fruit-themed artwork. Strange Fruits Music and the associated Dance Fruits Music later started releasing EDM covers of hits such as the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone." These were included on the 2021 release Strange Fruits Music, which featured a glowing melon face on its cover. MELON was gradually fleshed out into a distinct persona, and "Hello Hello," an original collaboration with INNA, appeared in 2022. The 51-track This Is MELON, Vol. 1 [Dance] arrived in 2023, including covers of hits by Avicii, ABBA, Justin Timberlake, and many others. Additionally, the tracks were released in extended mixes as well as sped-up, sped-up nightcore, and slowed + reverb versions.
