Mairo

Born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1995, rapper Romai Tesfaldet is better known as Mairo. Of Eritrean and Indian descent through his parents, he began rapping in his early teens and changed his pseudonym several times, first under the name R-Karah until 2012, then under his first name during his time with the group La Contrebande, and finally Mairo. A member of the SuperWak Clique collective, he invited his two comparses Slimka and Di-Meh on his first EP 365 (2017), followed three years later by the album 95 Monde Libre, produced by his brother Hôpital and featuring only one participation, that of another SuperWak Clique member, Makala. One of the tracks, "Kill Bill", wins the "Lyrics & Beats" prize in the Demotape Clinic competition launched by radio station M4Music. Released in 2021, the Rougemort EP is followed by several singles, before the 2023 release of the three-track duet with Slimka on Qui A Volé le Soleil and the solo album Omar Chappier, the first to appear on his Monde Libre label, featuring H JeuneCrack, Wallace Cleaver and Nes. The same year, one of Switzerland's most listened-to rappers added the EP Déjeuner en Paix to his repertoire, produced by JeanJass and featuring guest appearances by JeanJass's partner Caballero and Raplume.
