Luke Bond
As assistant director of music at St. George's, Windsor Castle, Luke Bond is one of Britain's most visible organists. Not only did he perform at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but he has also collaborated with Voces8 and other leading British vocal groups.
Bond was born around 1980 (his age was given as 38 as of late 2018). He has held appointments as organist and choir director at various English institutions, including the public school (in U.S. terms a private school) Clifton College near Bristol, the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick, and Truro Cathedral. Bond spent eight years as assistant director of music at Truro, and it was there that he began to make an impact nationally. He gave frequent recitals on the cathedral's famous organ and began to make recordings on it in 2013. That year, he accompanied the Truro Cathedral Choir under director Christopher Gray in a recording of works by Britten that also included solo organ pieces, and later that year, he played a similar role on a recording of choral music by Philip Stopford. The year 2013 also saw Bond make his solo debut recording, Mighty Voice, featuring the Truro Cathedral organ in works by Mendelssohn, Widor, Walton, and various contemporary composers. That recording, like all of Bond's others, appeared on the Regent label. Two more appearances by Bond on choral recordings at Truro followed, one devoted to the music of the World War I era, the other to the music of contemporary British composer Gabriel Jackson. In late 2017, Bond moved to the post of assistant director of music at St. George's, Windsor Castle, a position that greatly increased his celebrity as it entailed performing at the Prince Harry-Meghan Markle nuptials. It also enabled Bond to make his recording debut the following year with the Choir of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, under director James Vivian; Christmas at St. George's, Windsor, was an enthusiastically awaited holiday release for 2019.
