John Lubbock
John Lubbock is a British choral conductor. His musical studies started early when he sang as a chorister at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Lubbock sang with the John Alldis Choir and the Swingle Singers and was a founding member of the London Symphony Chorus. In 1967, Lubbock founded the Orchestra of St. John's and the OSJ Voices as a community orchestra and choir, aiming to improve musical life for people with little or no music education. He has taken his musicians on tour to Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and the United States, and they have performed several times at the Proms. Since the birth of an autistic child, Lubbock has become active in promoting music for the disabled, and founded the program Music for Autism, for which the OSJ plays charity concerts. A founding trustee of the Thomley Activity Centre for special needs children, and a trustee of the Music for Life Foundation, Lubbock has also given concerts to benefit people with dementia and other conditions. In July 1999, Lubbock received an honorary fellowship from the Royal Academy of Music.
