Joey LaBeija
Joey LaBeija is a Bronx-born DJ who made a name for himself around 2014 with his adventurous DJ sets, which seamlessly blended numerous genres including reggaeton, R&B, and alternative rock, along with aggressive, noisy bass and jagged beats reminiscent of U.K. grime. After establishing a monthly club night called Legendary and playing gigs at MoMa PS1 and Brooklyn Museum, and receiving press from the likes of FACT and The Fader, LaBeija released Shattered Dreams as an online mixtape in August of 2015. Focusing on more spacious downtempo cuts rather than faster club material, the release was a dark, emotionally heavy set of tracks. After receiving much acclaim from online music publications, Shattered Dreams was issued as a vinyl EP by Purple Tape Pedigree in early 2016.
