Jake Ferguson

Jake Ferguson is a London-based bassist, guitarist, composer, producer, and a frontline activist for racial justice and social equity. With longtime musical partner Malcolm Catto, he co-founded psychedelic, deep jazz-funk outfit the Heliocentrics in 2005. He also founded, leads, produces Black consciousness R&B collective The Brkn Record, whose debut album, The Architecture Of Oppression Part 1, appeared in 2021 from Mr. Bongo. Ferguson also serves with Adrian Owusu and Catto in the Soul Destroyers. With Heliocentrics, he's played on and co-produced more than a dozen albums, including all of the band's --including their globally acclaimed collaborations with masters such as Mulatu Astatke, Lloyd Miller, Orlando Julius and Melvin Van Peebles. With Catto, Ferguson co-composed the scores for OST (a soundtrack for a documentary about Miller, aka Lloyd Miller & the Heliocentrics) and The Sunshine Makers. In May 2023, he co-produced Legna, joining Gaslamp Killer and the Heliocentrics. In August, Emotions Run Dry, the first album credited under his own name (with Catto as a featured guest) was released by Madlib Invazion. It offered an atmospheric, musically varied instrumental set careening across psych, funk, hip-hop, and dub.
