Green Lung

Green Lung is a British band that introduced its retro-leaning, guitar-heavy mix of stoner rock and doom metal with the debut single "Lady Lucifer" in 2018. The group was formed one year earlier in London, England. Vocalist Tom Templar, bassist Joseph Guest, drummer Matt Wiseman, guitarist Scott Black, and organist John Wright spent several months crafting a hard-hitting sound inspired by bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Queen, and Bad Brains, paying particular attention to the heavy metal sounds of the early 1970s. After signing with the German indie label Kosmic Artifactz, Green Lung released a debut EP, Free the Witch, in 2018. The full-length album Woodland Rites followed in early 2019 and attracted significant attention from the international metal community, including the executives at the Finnish metal label Svart Records. Green Lung signed with Svart and released another record, Black Harvest, in 2021. The group toured heavily, too, playing heavy metal festivals like Bloodstock Open Air and Damnation Festival while also serving as the opening act for fellow stoner rock act Clutch on an international tour. A third album, This Heathen Land, followed in 2023, debuting at number 89 on the UK's Top 100 Official Albums chart while producing singles like "Mountain Throne," "Maxine (Witch Queen)," and "One for Sorrow."
