Francesco D' Orazio

Francesco d'Orazio is an Italian violinist and violist, who took up both instruments early in childhood. Studying at first with his father, then with Carlo Chiarappa and Cristiano Rossi, he was later a pupil of Denes Zsigmondy while attending the Salzburg Mozarteum, and he studied with Yair Kless at the Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv. He received his degree from the University of Bari. He has performed in Europe, China, Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina, with numerous orchestras. His repertoire is large, with a specialty in modern and contemporary music, including works by Alfred Schnittke, Terry Riley, Michael Nyman, John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, Michael Daugherty, and Luciano Berio. He has also performed as violinist in the original instrument ensemble, L'Astrée, based in Turin. He has recorded for Decca, Hyperion, Stradivarius, and Opus 111. D'Orazio plays a violin by Giuseppe Guarneri, "Comte de Cabriac," Cremona 1711.
