exmagician
With influences spanning Captain Beefheart, Super Furry Animals, and the Beta Band, Belfast, Ireland's eclectic exmagician is the project of lifelong friends Daniel Todd and James Smith. Previously, the duo performed in Cashier No. 9, whose David Holmes-produced 2011 album To the Death of Fun earned them critical acclaim and radio airplay. After Cashier No. 9 folded, Todd and Smith sought a rawer, more playful sound. Using a quote from a Pavement lyric as their name, the pair became exmagician and issued their debut EP, Kiss That Wealth Goodbye, in 2015 via Bella Union, which also released To the Death of Fun. The duo's first full-length, Scan the Blue, arrived in March 2016.
