Deetah

Rap/dance artist Claudia Ogalde (she got the name Deetah from her childhood nickname, Claudita), was born on Februrary 29, 1976 in Chile. At the age of six, she relocated to Stockholm with her parents due to political unrest in her original homeland (her father was a music teacher in school). By her early twenties, she was appearing on recordings by such big name rap artists as Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. (lending her vocal talents to the chorus of the song "Runnin'"), Ophélie Winter, and as part of the group Goldmine. 1998 saw the release of her debut album, Deadly Cha Cha, which spawned the singles "Relax" (which contained samples from Dire Straits song "Why Worry") and "El Paraiso Rico" (the latter featuring samples from Madonna's "La Isla Bonita"). In addition, Deetah's songs have appeared on numerous compilations, as well as the hit 1998 motion picture soundtrack I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
