Picasso's modernist genius swiftly stretched beyond the pictorial and spread into music and dance, two art forms with which the Spanish painter always maintained a close relationship, to the point of influencing composer friends he met along the way.
Based on a story from France during the Revolutionary Terror (the story of an intrepid young woman who disguised herself as a man to save her husband from the dungeon), Beethoven's unique opera has had a turbulent life, and has been reworked here and there over the years. New proof of the German composer's musical genius, Fidelio also permitted him to write a musical setting for a libretto that matched his political beliefs.
Orfeo Orchestra (conducted by György Vashegyi), a prolific performer of French baroque music since its birth, has been honoured in recent years by both Palazetto Bru Zane and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) with invitations to record a series of explorations of French lyrical music – both baroque and classical.
