Peter Gordon
Viewed at the time as Britain's answer to the Everley Brothers, Peter and Gordon were a folk-oriented pop duo swept along with the vanguard of the British Invasion. Their 1964 debut single, A World Without Love was a Beatles-style ballad which gave the English duo a number one in the US and UK charts earning them a gold disc in the process. The song was written by Paul McCartney, boyfriend of Asher's sister, the actress Jane Asher. The Beatles connection continued to help the duo's chart success and they had hits with a number of Lennon-McCartney compositions before parting ways in 1968. During their short career the duo achieved seven top ten hits across the US and UK charts, four of which sold over a million copies each. Peter Asher went on to head up A&R at Apple Records before moving to America where he became a successful producer working with artists such as Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor and Cher. Asher eventually became Senior Vice President for Sony Music Entertainment. Peter and Gordon were reunited in 2005 and continued making guest appearances at festivals and events until Waller's death from a heart attack in 2009.
