Indra Rios-Moore

Born in New York, New York in 1980, jazz singer Indra Rios-Moore grew up surrounded by music. Her mother was of Puerto Rican descent and her father was bassist Don Moore. She began singing along with music and, at the age of 13, her mother encouraged her to audition for Mannes College of Music. Once accepted, she began to study classical singing. She then continued her studies at Smith College. She married jazz musician Benjamin Traerup and moved with him to Denmark. In 2007, the couple recruited bassist Thomas Sejthen and formed a trio. She released her debut album, Indra, in 2010, which was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album at the Danish Music Awards. Her second album, In Between, was released in 2012 and won that same award. Her third album, Heartland (2015), was produced by Larry Klein and featured the single “Little Black Train”. The album was named one of the best jazz albums of the year by The London Telegraph and London’s Sunday Times. In 2016, she and her band won the BMW Welt Jazz Award. Her next album, Carry My Heart, was released in 2018.
