Torrey

Bay Area band Torrey blurs the line between shoegaze dreaminess and indie rock accessibility, making texture-heavy pop that puts melody in the foreground. Led by siblings Ryann and Kelly Gonsalves, Torrey grew from jangly beginnings into more washed-out sounds on their Slumberland-released, self-titled 2024 sophomore album. Torrey was formed in 2018 by Ryann and Kelly Gonsalves. The two songwriters worked with a host of area musicians on early forms of the band, which exhibited a shimmery, indie pop-influenced sound. Torrey recorded at the vaunted Tiny Telephone studios for the production of both their 2019 EP, Sister, and 2021 debut album, Something Happy. Both the EP and LP were self-released by the band. For their second full-length, the Gonsalveses worked with Matthew Ferrara of the Umbrellas, setting up a makeshift home studio and taking more time with the album-making process. The resultant self-titled LP explored more of a shoegaze-informed sound and was released by Slumberland in March of 2024.
