Jeangu Macrooy
Jeangu Macrooy is a modern soul singer-songwriter based in The Netherlands. Born in Paramaribo, Suriname in 1993, he started his musical journey at the age of 13 when his parents gave him a guitar. It led, briefly, to a turn in the band Between Towers with his brother. The pair released an album, 'Stars On My Radio', in 2013, but Macrooy sought a larger audience and moved to The Netherlands to study at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede and pursue a career in Europe.
At a performance at the Conservatory Macrooy met the producer Perquisite and signed to his label, Unexpected Records, soon after. His first solo EP, 'Brave Enough', landed in April 2016, with its first single 'Gold' getting used in an HBO advert. The following April Macrooy released his debut album, 'High On You', peaking at number 69 on the Dutch Albums Chart. He toured and played festivals, releasing his follow up album, 'Horizon' in February 2019.
In January 2020 it was announced that Macrooy would represent The Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic postponed the contest until 2021 when Macrooy will enter with a new song.
