Pedro Bacan
When Pedro Bacan died, following an automobile accident on his way home after a gig, the world lost one of the most innovative purveyors of the flamenco guitar. During the two decades that he performed, Bacan had revolutionalized the flamenco tradition with his imaginative melodies which, occassionally, lasted for twenty or more minutes without repetition. Rather than rely on modern gimmickry, Bacan, who alternated between solo performances and shows with his band Le Clan Des Pinini, remained committed to blending the influence of old recordings with spirit and imagination. Portuguese magazine, "Liberation", praised Bacan for his "calm and tumult, the Bacan marks, after a set of ten years, the flamenco with its innovative creations that of balance between the tradition and the audacity of a modern performer". In the United States, "Guitar Player" described Bacan's playing as "full of gusto and passion. It's real, full-blooded, irresistible".
