"You Really Got a Hold on Me," one of the Miracles' most popular songs, is the cornerstone of this popular set. Smokey brings his feather-light tenor down a couple of octaves on these sessions, ending his Nolan Strong imitation. Strong, of the Diablos, influenced the young William Robinson; Smokey's first recording was a Nolan Strong remake, "Adios Senorita." Some of Robinson's most brilliant songs -- "Such Is Love, Such Is Like," "Happy Landing," "A Love That She Can Count On," and the bouncy "I Can Take A Hint" -- provide some serious grooves. Original member Warren Moore is not pictured or featured because of a prior commitment with Uncle Sam.

Stevie Wonder, Funking Up the ‘70s

Between 1972 and 1976, a young Stevie Wonder recorded five albums that would leave their mark on the history of Motown, as well as on the entire world of pop and soul music: A musical and technological nirvana that is still just as influential today.

The Prince of the 80s

Within the family tree of funk, Prince Rogers Nelson, who passed away in April 2016, was a branch all of his own. In the course of a career spanning almost forty years, he managed to blend together the heritage of the founding fathers (James Brown, Sly Stone and George Clinton) with other influences, from rock'n'roll to electronica to jazz. He produced an exuberant, attention-grabbing groove, and his star shone brightest between 1978 and 1988…

Motown, the sound of the young America
