Soul to Jazz II finds drummer Purdie turning in another round of covers of classic soul-jazz covers with a rotating small group featuring such luminaries as Stanley Turrentine (tenor saxophone), Junior Mance (piano), Vincent Herring (alto saxophone) and Benny Green (piano). The results are certainly pleasant, but the group never really hits a good groove and the music never quite rises above the merely adequete.
