Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll is the third studio album from the English band Peace. The band sprung to the forefront of the British indie rock scene with their EP Delicious (2012). Since then, the band have grown and honed their sound as a group. The LP is far more musing and vulnerable than previous works and the honesty is refreshing. No more so than on the lead single From Under Liquid Glass, with it being released in support of the mental health charity MQ. The frank lyrics candidly reflect the effects of depression that can suffocate anyone. The opening track Power is just as powerful as its tight guitar riffs and call for us to “wake up and smell the lavender” give us a sense of what is to come in the following 10 tracks. The title track Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll embodies a alternative pop embrace, as the battle cry builds to a crescendo of unifying joy, while Silverlined is a number built for a swaying festival crowd screaming at the top of their lungs. The album as a whole is more pop than previous compilations, In Love (2013) and Happy People (2015), but the band (mainly frontman Harrison Koisser) do not shy away from this, and we applaud them for that. © Aidan Nickerson/ Qobuz
