L.A. Guns' third album, Hollywood Vampires, shows some signs of stagnation for the Californian sleaze rock band. Although there are handful of strong songs, usually powered by greasy riffs, a fair majority of the album sounds processed, as if the band were aiming for a Top 40 crossover hit, much like Cocked & Loaded's "The Ballad of Jayne." And they almost got that success with "It's Over Now," but the song sounded forced, like most of the power ballads on the album. When L.A. Guns stick with the rockers, they sound inspired and as good as they ever have.
