Few singers can say they underwent brain surgery the very same day they scored their first No. 1 hit, as happened to John Berry, who celebrated his first chart topper, "Your Love Amazes Me," from his hospital bed. The happier moments of Berry's career are collected here in his first GREATEST HITS CD, comprising the most successful tracks from his first three albums, which shows why Berry was considered one of the most soulful and accomplished country vocalists of the '90s.
His pleading tenor, reminiscent of Meat Loaf, wrings emotion out of ballads like "If I Had Any Pride Left at All" and "Change My Mind," and kicks up the tempo on tracks like the breezy, delightful "She's Taken a Shine." The CD includes three No. 1 hits and plenty of Top 10s, including "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye," "What's In It for Me," and "You and Only You." Fans will also appreciate the inclusion of the album cut "I Will if You Will," featuring Patty Loveless, and the heartbreaking "We Can't Unmake Love," a duet with Wynonna Judd previously released only on her CD THE OTHER SIDE.
