After the release of her third album in 2009, Ring Frei, LaFee (aka Christina Klein) went on a two-year hiatus before returning with her new record, Frei, in 2011. And just as her appearance has changed -- her gothic style has been replaced by a brighter look including a blonde Afro wig -- her music has turned more pop-oriented as well. The metal-influenced rock is gone, there are fewer guitars, and the album offers electro pop and industrial-inspired tunes in addition to a number of piano ballads. Produced by Peter Hoffmann and David Bonk, the album reached number 14 in the German album charts, but only managed to stay there for two weeks.
