They may sound like a british band reviving the classic sound of 90’s Britpop, however this Australian trio like to shy away from these comparisons. The band are so much more than a cheap knock off of Oasis, but do concede that the boys from Manchester and others from that era have influenced their sound which they say they “wear on their sleeves”. It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for DMA’s (also known as Dirty Mexican Armadillo’s, Driving My Aunt’s or Danish Mastication Army’s) following on from their debut album Hills End (2016). On their sophomore LP, For Now, DMA’s have evolved this sound to be more loose, shoegazing and jangle poppy. This may be down to the guiding hand of Kim Moyes, one half of the Presets, who co-produced this latest compilation. The Australian electronic musician gave this album a more hi-fi, polished feel compared to the rugged first album which was recorded predominantly in the groups bedroom studio. It’s distorted guitars, classic rock drums, and snarling vocals on tracks like For Now and In the Air, make this album a joy to the ears. In addition, there’s no doubt that there is a comradery to the group and their sound, that only comes with playing music with your mates.
