Sama’ Abdulhadi launched to international fame when she was featured on a Boiler Room showcase of Palestinian DJs in 2018. Soon after, her festival bookings increased by leaps and bounds, and she recorded an Essential Mix in 2019. Her debut mix album, for London institution Fabric, largely consists of tracks by European and South American artists, with Pan-Pot, Flug, and Coyu among the few established names. Abdulhadi has been dedicated to mentoring and promoting up-and-coming talent for her entire career, through her formation and involvement with platforms such as Union and Resilience. Her Fabric mix finds common ground between tracks largely produced by unknown artists, flowing in a propulsive, sometimes ecstatic sequence. Occasionally swept along by the sounds of whirring airplanes, the mix largely focuses on steadily driving techno, sometimes veering into darker or more progressive directions. Rippling synths and echoing vocal chants during Xzyko's "Kangoa" seem to mirror a confusing but thrilling flash of overexcitement in the club for no apparent reason. Lampe's "Where to Start" briefly detours into a dubstep breakdown without slowing the overall momentum. The mix heads into almost EBM territory with tracks like "Well Fee," an Abdulhadi original featuring gruff-voiced emcee Walaa Sbeit. Kos:mo's "Flashback" incorporates grime-style rapping into pounding techno, and the mix heads into peak time with increasingly aggressive selections by the likes of Mython and Bruce Zalcer, later edging close to trance with spiraling, arpeggio-riddled cuts like Michael Klein's "Contact." Sylvie Miles' "Man in the Woods" sounds spooky enough to be mashed up with the X-Files theme. The mix triumphantly ends with the rousing Middle Eastern techno fusion of Acid Arab's "Laba Staifia (Ammar 808 Remix)," which seems like several songs in one, due to its tempo and energy shifts.
