In all respects, both DARK and its follow-up, TAMNA VODA, epitomize the CMP sound. Both discs showcase brooding, intense, liquefied passages, enshrouded in mysterious cultural mysticism. It's not quite rock and not quite jazz but a fusion music filled with unknown, cathartic rhythms and a turgid power.

Thanks mainly to the prodigious talents of multi-intrumentalist Mark Nauseef, Dark's self-titled debut hovers in a mist of edgy, keyboard/percussion-driven soundscapes and sharp slabs of angry progressive rock that suggest a volatile combination of Middle Eastern sorties with King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and AGHARTA-era Miles Davis. Absolutely riveting, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything quite like it--rock, jazz, or otherwise.
