Native of the Andalusian mecca of flamenco puro, like Camarón or Manuel Agujetas, his master, Andres de Jerez started diving as a child into this demanding art, like you go into religion. Adept of a singing expressing the depth of the soul, his sound science of classic palos (bulerias, soleas, siguiriyas…) serves his inspiration, his raw emotion. At 52, this patient pilgrim of an unaffected flamenco has waited for the perfect star configuration to record his first album. It’s in the skies of Mont-de-Marsan that the planets started to align, during the 2014 Arte Flamenco festival. There, Andres meets Samuelito, young prodigy of the flamenca guitar, just as subjugated by Agujetas as he is. From then, nothing will ever be the same, as the two sides of the same dream meet. Vocals and guitar support, they stimulate and push each other in the same direction. On Arañando El Alma, we can hear this flawless complicity, this attained ambition of the true singing, accurate playing, vibrating together and the deep emotions can thus reach the heavenly vault. © Benjamin MiNiMUM/Qobuz
