Founder of the great Orch. African Jazz, discoverer of Nico and Rochereau, Kalle tried unsuccessfully for a comeback with this band featuring Cuban flutist Gonzalo. These highly individual recordings, which tilted the Congo sound back toward Cuba and in particular toward the classic Cuban flute-and-fiddle charanga, proved too oblique to their times to sell much. But they were and remain wonderful.
