Stand Atlantic
Stand Atlantic are a melody-forward Australian pop-punk outfit who made a name for themselves as a enegetic and passionate live attraction before scoring a big record deal. After the 2018 release of their debut album, Skinny Dipping, on Hopeless Records, the band rose to mainstream success with their next two releases, with 2022's F.E.A.R. making the Top Ten on the ARIA charts. The 2024 PVRIS and Bruses collaboration "GIRL$" helped build anticipation for Stand Atlantic's fourth LP, Was Here, released later that year. The band formed in Sydney in 2012 with an original lineup of singer/guitarist Bonnie Fraser, bassist David Potter, guitarist Arthur Taak, and drummer Jordan Jansons. Following a self-released single, "Breakaway," Jansons was replaced on drums by Jonno Panichi, who played on the group's debut EP, 2015's A Place Apart. Over the next two years, Stand Atlantic worked hard to establish themselves, doing major tours with bands like As It Is, State Champs, and Cute Is What We Aim For. With the departure of second guitarist Taak, Potter took over on lead guitar and they began employing a touring bassist. In 2017 Stand Atlantic became the first Australian act to sign with Italian pop-punk specialists Rude Records. With the strength of a label behind them, the band landed the opening slot on New Found Glory's sold-out Australian tour in the summer of 2017 and released their label debut, the Sidewinder EP, in September, earning positive reviews and support from Triple J radio. A European tour supporting Britain's ROAM rounded out their calendar for the year, and they kicked off 2018 touring Australia with American band Knuckle Puck. The September release of their next single, "Lavender Bones," was coupled with announcement that they had signed with high-profile U.S. label Hopeless Records. A month later, Stand Atlantic delivered their full-length debut, Skinny Dipping. The album was a success among genre fans, elevating the band's profile significantly. Not long after its release, they promoted touring bassist Miki Rich into full-time membership. The group's 2020 follow-up album, Pink Elephant, saw them take a more experimental approach, with slicker, more electronic-driven production that emphasized their pop side. It became their first LP to enter the ARIA charts at number 23. Stand Atlantic collaborated with nothing, nowhere. on 2021's "Deathwish," which became a sizeable streaming hit and marked the first taste of their third album. Released mid-2022, F.E.A.R. bore a slightly harder-edged sound than its predecessor and featured guest spots from Royal & the Serpent and Tom the Mail Man. It was also their first to make the Top Ten. The band kicked off their next album cycle in 2023 with "Sex on the Beach," followed in early 2024 by "Warzone" and "GIRL$," the latter song featuring Bruses and PVRIS. Along with the intense "Frenemies," these songs formed the core of Stand Atlantic's fourth album, Was Here, released in August 2024.
