Tora
Byron Bay indie electronic outfit Tora was formed in 2013 by members Thorne Davis (drums), Shaun Johnston (bass guitar), Jo Loewenthal (lead vocals, guitar, and keys), and Jai Piccone (vocals, guitar and keys). The group had previously met at high school and initially came together as an indie-rock band before turning their attention to electronic-led music. They gleaned inspiration from artists like James Blake and SOHN for their debut self-titled EP of spidery electronica – which was released in October 2013 – and after making a name for themselves on the national airwaves with their single "Calming Her," landed a live show at Falls Festival Byron Bay on New Year's Eve. They kept up the momentum with a talked-about follow-up single, "These Eyes," which was released in March 2014. The Eat the Sun EP came in November 2014 and they followed it with a national tour and viral track, "Jaigantic," remixed by respected LA-based producer Galimatias. An international tour followed in spring 2015, with the European leg immortalised by Carlos Walters for his Vimeo documentary, Tora European Tour Diary 2015. Two years later saw the release of their debut chillwave-flecked album Take a Rest, with the follow-up, Can't Buy the Mood, arriving in 2019. Tora released their third album, A Force Majeure, in 2021.
