Impish singer/songwriter Rino Gaetano was only active between 1973 and his tragic death in 1981, but his songs made a lasting impact on Italian culture. In fact, by 2010 there were twice as many compilations as original studio albums, all released since the 1990s. Issued in 2003, Sotto i Cieli di Rino is a double-set collection offering 26 of his most popular songs, but the only addition to previous compilations is a DJ Molella remix of Gaetano's best-known composition, "Il Cielo è Sempre Più Blu," featuring verses censured in the original version. A special edition of Sotto i Cieli di Rino appeared in 2005, raising the stakes to three CDs and 50 tracks, including four previously unreleased and sung in Spanish.
