This entry in Bill and Gloria Gaither's long series of homecoming recordings is a little looser than usual, perhaps influenced by New Orleans' legendary reputation as Sin City Central. Yet the Gaither worship message comes through loud and clear on cuts such as the rousing "Miracles Will Happen on That Day" and the gently swinging "The Windows of Heaven Are Open," which has more of an R&B feel than is usually found on a Gaither album.
"Twenty Four Hours a Day" is likewise influenced by New Orleans second line rhythms, and of course no homecoming album recorded in the Crescent City would be complete without a special version of the New Orleans anthem, "When the Saints Go Marching In" heard here in its rare religious incarnation. NEW ORLEANS HOMECOMING is one of the more joyous offerings in this devout dynasty's oeuvre, and would make a fine primer in worship music for the uninitiated.
