With Good World, Ryan Bouchard rushes through 17 tracks in 22 minutes, his creepy, wavering falsetto accompanied by his own tinker toy-like instrumentation and David Greenberg's lumbering drums. A concept album about subjects probably only Bouchard comprehends, this is an affair that might only interest the most adventurous listeners or fans of outsider art. An electric accordion, ear-piercingly high clarinets, and other found items weave in and out of the mix, creating an overall unsettling atmosphere of childlike oblivion. Bouchard offers up freak-jazz workouts and moody ballads, but all the songs intentionally blend into a quick fire of wailing indie obliqueness. Again, it's likely only fans of psychedelic experimentation and spooky falsetto mummery will appreciate Bouchard's otherworldly sonic kaleidoscope, but Good World is certainly an audio world unto itself.
