Covering traditional folk tunes from ten countries and in 11 languages, Theodore Bikel and Geula Gill duet on this most extraordinary collection. The fun and passion with which both attack the material is truly inspiring, as the high-spirited Bolivian "Pollerita" and the rollicking Yiddish tune "Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen" are indicative of the feel-good nature of the recordings. Bikel and Gill complement each over very well vocally, exceptionally well on Israel's "Shir Hanoar." Both earn extra high marks for the skill in which they maneuver the rapid tempo changes most of the songs incorporate, as well. The gorgeous Argentinian tune "Viva Jujuy" and the high-energy Brazilian "Peixe Vivo" make fine entries from South America. Still, Bikel has earned his reputation singing Yiddish tunes, and the songs of this tradition rightfully dominate the collection. All in all, Folk Songs From Just About Everywhere is highly recommended if you happen to come across a copy of it.
