ESCAPE FROM PLANET Monday is the solo debut from British producer DJ Fresh, an artist largely associated with the global drum 'n' bass scene. ESCAPE is a collection of creative and original club compositions that borrows from house, dancehall, acid jazz, ambient, and other styles. There are plenty of pop elements also, as many tracks feature vocals and singalong hooks. Things are given a boost with guest spots from the likes of DJ Shadow, Mary Byker, and Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys (who contributes to the hypnotic closing track, "Throw"). Overall, DJ Fresh's first solo outing earns high marks for its sophisticated and accessible take on modern club music.
