Marina Rei makes the sort of up-tempo smooth jazz and R&B that leaked into the American pop charts during the '80s. The tight arrangements and powerful singing are actually a mild surprise, considering how boring this music has the potential to be. With very little filler and some memorable tracks, this is more in tune with a Whitney Houston or Taylor Dayne. The best part is that Rei brought a memorable batch of tunes to the album, whether it be the James Brown-esque funk of "Sono Mia" or the Motown flourishes of the title track. Anyone who misses this brand of pop from the '80s should be pleased to know that Rei not only continues to make music in that vein, but she is very good at it. The language barrier may be an issue for some listeners, but these are some very catchy songs that transcend any communication problems with their feel and delivery. Anyone looking to hear that smooth sound again should look no further; Rei is one of the last musicians championing this sound.
