A year after her first album Khonnar, Tunisian DJ and producer Deena Abdelwahed is back in our speakers with a four-track-long EP on which she continues to pursue her unique sonic collisions between bass music, techno and experimental, and all this from the first track Lala Fi Tounes, a real session of increasing hypnosis. With a clear goal of getting people on the dancefloor (but never just for simple dancing), the producer inspires herself from Tunisian Gnawa music on Ah’na Hakkek, a hybrid track which is carried by a dark bass and an unpredictable drum machine. She then takes on the patriarchy on Insaniyti, rhythmed by metallic percussion à la Stomp and synths which increase the pressure, while the closing Zardet Sidi Bagran takes its inspiration from hardcore techno. But as always, Deena Abdelwahed offers up her own twisted non-conformist version. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
