Although the liner notes claim that Crucify the Priest was "recorded live," that isn't entirely true (the vocals and guitar solos were overdubbed). However, the fact that all the basic tracks for this album (bass, drums, rhythm guitar) were laid down simultaneously is impressive. In fact, Bludgeon's most impressive attribute overall is its rhythm section (including the guitars); these brutally fast speed metal blasts are detonated at frightening tempos with jaw-dropping precision. The vocals, meanwhile, are standard-fare grindcore throat shredding, and the lead guitars offer little more than post-Slayer noisemaking. The band is intense and uncompromising in its ferocity, but if you're a fan of the genre, you've probably heard this before.
