Composer Stu Phillips unleashed his most memorable cue on the main title theme to the 1978 sci-fi television series Battlestar Galactica. The triumphant motif was even turned into a disco hit, thanks in part to the success of the leisure suit-wearing Meco's dance rendition of the Star Wars theme. Geffen's re-release of the space saga's original soundtrack -- disco version included -- has been remastered in 21-bit digital from the original tapes under the close supervision of Phillips. Though nothing has been omitted from the original, the track listing has been altered, but only the pickiest of fans will object. The improved sound quality and extensive liner notes (including anecdotes from series creator/executive producer Glen A. Larson, actor Richard Hatch, and Phillips) are the only real "extras" on this 25th anniversary edition -- which is probably just cashing in on the the Sci-Fi Channel's updated version of the series -- but this memorable score from the man who brought you the music to Buck Rogers in the 21st Century is a must for collectors, especially in such a pristine form.
