Lil Goat

Born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, Lil Goat is an intense, melancholic, and gifted Southern rapper delivering cathartic, biographical tales of love, loss, doubt, and despair.He began uploading videos in 2017 when only 15 years old and went viral that same year with a candid and vulnerable rap performed on the phone to his ex-girlfriend. That particular video went on to be viewed over 30 million times in subsequent years, but it was the initial flurry of interest that helped him to build a rap career. 2018's deep and open "Misunderstood" was Lil Goat's first properly produced track to blow up, aiding him to consolidate a sizable, like-minded bank of online followers. An introspective series of early 2020 singles from the same sessions, including "Sick of Love" and "Save Me," culminated with the heartbreaking "Losing My Mind," which dealt with the traumatic loss of his girlfriend and unborn son to suicide. The same period brought "Dancing with the Devil" -- Lil Goat's first collaboration with his Tallahassee contemporary, Ralan Styles -- and comparatively lighter fare in the form of "Faze Me," a simple, acoustic guitar-fueled love song. However, late 2020's "Soldier Cry" and early 2021's "Only a Man" both utilized minor-chord piano arrangements to set a more characteristically bleak tone.On signing with 141st Lane Music, Lil Goat collaborated with local rapper Bachi for October 2021's "Heart on Fire," a track that ultimately charted in the Billboard Global 200. A relatively quiet 2022 still resulted in two mature singles -- the jazzy "Trials and Tribulations" and the tranquil "Who You?" -- which both evinced a willingness to stretch artistically. All three tracks appeared on the March 2023 EP 21 before the next month brought "Fashion Nova," another joint single with Ralan Styles and Lil Goat's first release for Philadelphia's Big Money Records. "Date Night," "Red Flags," "Bad Guy," and "Drowsy" all followed that year, placing Lil Goat's singing voice over relaxed, languid R&B. Next, February 2024's OKAYYY -- a Big Money-backed joint album with Ralan Styles -- featured the singles "Count Up" and "Privacy." Their non-album single "My Environment" followed before Lil Goat contributed a solo track, "Emergency," to May 2024's Big Money artist-showcase EP, Check Day, Vol. 2.
