Kaysha
Songwriter and producer Edward Mokolo Jr, aka Kaysha, was born on January 22, 1974 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He didn't stay there long, traveling the world for his father's professional needs, who ended up working as an ambassador in France in 1981. His mother gave him his first synthesizer at the age of 12, and he learned music by copying what he heard, but the turning point came two years later, when he discovered US rap. Rapping in French, English and Spanish, he began performing live in Belgium and France in the early 90s. He formed his first hip-hop group, E-Komba. He discovered zouk after meeting Jean-Michel Rotin, and began performing in the style, accompanying the latter on tour. 1998 saw the release of his first solo album, I'm Ready, featuring the hit "Bounce baby". Kaysha blends her influences from zouk, Afro-pop and rap. Kaysha's second album, World Wide Chicco, was a more urban affair. In 2002, Caribbean Soul was born. He set up his own label, Sushiraw, which also enabled him to produce other artists, and released one of his biggest hits, " On dit quoi ", in 2003, on the album It's all love . In 2005, he was nominated in the "Best African Artist" category at the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2006, the singles "Somenthin's going on" and "Love de toi ", taken from the album Legendary, hit the charts. The artist multiplies collaborations and releases, at the rate of an album a year, with his own particular touch. In 2014, in the album Raw Like Sushi, and the single "Diamonds", cover of Rihanna, exceeds ten million views. In 2017, the single "Malembe Malembe ", taken fromAfrican Prince, was released. While continuing to release records, in 2020 Kaysha set up Club Shada, videos he streams live and in English, tackling topical issues and responding to listeners. In 2022, he released the album Bantu Royalty.
