Destiny Rogers
California's Destiny Rogers is a singer/songwriter with a sound that touches upon laid-back R&B and hip-hop-inflected pop. She emerged in 2019 with the EP Tomboy, followed a year later by the full-length Great Escape.
Born in Lodi, California, in 1999, Rogers grew up in a religious family. A skateboarder from age six, she initially thought that the sport might be her calling. However, inspired by her youth pastor father's passion for rock music like AC/DC and her mother's love of mariachi, she was also drawn to music. After receiving her first guitar at age nine, she began teaching herself how to play by watching videos online, including learning Justin Bieber hits. As her taste matured, so did her own songwriting abilities, and by her teens she was busking on weekends around Los Angeles. Eventually, she caught the ear of the songwriting and production team the Stereotypes, who signed her to their Beach Wave Sound label in 2018. The following year, she issued her debut EP, Tomboy, which included the track "North$ide." Over the course of the following year, Rogers released additional streaming hits like "Euphora" and the P-Lo and Guapdad 4000 collaboration "Lo Lo," both of which appeared on the full-length Great Escape in 2020. More stand-alone singles arrived with 2021's "Simon Say" (featuring Flo Milli), 2022's "Summer Nights," and 2023's "Still Your Girl."
