Axx of Jahpostles

The Jahpostles Band was formed in Portland, Jamaica in 1977. The original line-up featured Cecil Hardy and Sharon Miles alongside the brothers Anthony and Devon Bradshaw. The group performed on the North Coast where, like many other aspiring artists, they nurtured their skills playing to tourists. After a few seasons the group decided to leave the island for Miami, Florida. It was at this time that the band enrolled Ian Dawkins. The group built a solid reputation in their own right as well as supporting visiting Jamaican acts. Jahpostles performing as the ‘Axx Of’ were equally proficient, supporting singers that encompassed John Holt and lovers rock favourite Sanchez alongside notable ragga DJs including the lewd Lady Saw and the self-acclaimed ‘Principal’ Charlie Chaplin. While working in Florida the band recorded sessions for Key West resulting in the local hit, ‘Backyard’. Having established notoriety the band returned, ‘Back A Yard’ in 1993, to the North Coast of Jamaica. They were soon supporting a number of vocalists, contributing in particular to the burgeoning career of Garnett Silk. The Jahpostles were initially recruited to support the singer at the Acropolis Club in Ocho Rios. Impressed by the band’s musicianship Silk employed them as permanent support, and the alliance continued until his tragic death in December 1994. Their association with the singer led them to record initially at Courtney Cole’s Roof International Studios in Ocho Rios. The band subsequently recorded further tracks in a cultural and lovers rock style at Tuff Gong, Mixing Lab and Grove Music. The sessions resulted in their debut, Give Thanks And Praise, which saw the band performing in a style reminiscent of artists such as Chalice. The group’s debut was widely viewed as a country style of roots rock reggae, and featured a collaboration with the DJ Prezident Brown on ‘Starlight’. The group toured extensively and continued to promote their debut while supporting conscientious performers, including Everton Blender and Anthony B. At the 1997 Essential Festival the band supported several acts in different arenas.
