About Playlist

How to talk about Jacques Brel without saying the words "dazzling", "stunning", or "out of the ordinary" ... Impossible! The young Belgian arrived in Paris in 1953 and revolutionized the world of "Chanson Française": the traditional French crossover between poetry and music. He wouldn't be there long, however, leaving the touring scene after 13 years to make a couple of magnificent films, before leaving us for good. He was a man with an infinitely beautiful mind, capable of making the most grandiose, romantic statements, before backing them up with a line about dirty sailors "blowing their noses in the stars". A marvellous musician, he brought his acting skills to the stage to deliver gut-busting performances, where he laughed and cried and felt the world's joy and pain, and bared it for all to see.
