Twilight Force
Twilight Force is a Swedish symphonic power metal group that combines virtuosic musicianship with thespian ambitions. Citing early role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons and Might & Magic as cornerstones, the band's self-styled "adventure metal" is punctuated by their LARP-style outfits and fantasy-based lyrics, most of which concern the fictional world of The Twilight Kingdoms. Debuting in 2014 with Tales of Ancient Prophecies, Twilight Force quickly ascended to the upper echelons of the European power metal scene and continued to explore the arcane and fantastical on Heroes of Mighty Magic, Dawn of the Dragonstar, and At the Heart of Wintervale.
Formed in Falun in 2011, Twilight Force existed as a concept years before in the heads of founding guitarist Philip Lindh and keyboardist Daniel Beckman – many songs on the band's debut album were written years before its release. Bassist Dunder Björn Lundqvist, guitarist Jocke Leandro Johansson, drummer Daniel Sjögren, and vocalist Christian Eriksson joined the crew in 2013; the group made its live debut in Madrid later that year.
Tales of Ancient Prophecies, released on Swedish indie Black Lodge Records, appeared in 2014 and was a modest success in Sweden and caught the attention of Nuclear Blast, which added the group to its roster. 2016's aptly named Heroes of Might Magic saw an increase in symphonic, orchestral, and operatic elements and featured guest vocals from Sabaton's Joakim Brodén and Rhapsody of Fire's Fabio Tordiglione. Christian Eriksson left the fold the following year and was replaced by Alessandro Conti (Trick or Treat, Luca Turilli's Rhapsody), who made his studio debut on 2019's Dawn of the Dragonstar. 2023's At the Heart of Wintervale marked the recording debut of drummer Isak Olsson, who took over kit duties from Daniel Sjögren in 2020. The LP saw Twilight Force deliver a complex and sonically opulent set of sword-and-sorcery-forward power metal that included a pair of ten-minute epics.
