Rene Carol
René Carol (* April 11, 1920 in Berlin; † April 9, 1978 in Minden) was a pop singer from Germany. He celebrated his greatest time in the 1950s and 1960s. Born Gerhard Tschirschnitz, the singer initially began an apprenticeship as a mechanic. After the end of the Second World War, he was taken prisoner of war in France. During this time, he performed in bars and nightclubs. An underworld figure sympathetic to him provides him with a passport in the name of Rene Carol. At the end of 1946, the artist returns to Germany. Kurt Feltz is in the audience at one of his performances. He has already discovered several stars for pop music. Kurt Feltz produces the song "Maria aus Bahia" (1950) for Rene Carol. This marks the beginning of a successful career in pop music. At the same time, he also appeared as an actor in several film productions. Rene Carol's greatest hits include "Deinen Namen den hab ich vergessen" (1954), "O Wandersmann" (1955) and "Kein Land kann schöner sein" (1960). His star began to decline in the 1960s. Without his wife Margit, who took over the management, Rene Carol's career would have come to an early end. On April 9, 1978, Rene Carol died of cancer at the age of just 57.
