Moon Taxi

A five-piece jam and alternative rock outfit hailing from Nashville, Moon Taxi issued their 2007 debut album, Melodica, a year after forming. Hundreds of shows and four studio albums later, they took a crisper, poppier turn with 2018's Let the Record Play. Established by students at Belmont University in 2006 and quickly building a local following, Moon Taxi founded their own label, 12th South Records, soon after. Members Trevor Terndrup (vocals), Spencer Thomson (guitar), Tommy Putnam (bass), Wes Bailey (keyboards), and Tyler Ritter (drums) released their first album, Melodica, on 12th South Records in 2007. Their next step was to keep their audiences happy and promote their album the old-fashioned way: with many, many gigs. A concert album titled Live Ride followed in 2008, and their second proper album, Cabaret, appeared in 2012. Moon Taxi signed to BMG for distribution of their 2013 LP Mountains Beaches Cities. The album led to their songs being licensed for TV and commercials, their first appearances on U.S. late-night TV including Late Show with David Letterman, and performances at music festivals such as Bonnaroo, the Governor's Ball, and Lollapalooza. The band's fourth studio album, Daybreaker, saw release in October 2015, and was followed in 2016 by another live album, New Year's Eve 2015. A single in early 2017, "Two High," showcased a brighter, pop-oriented sound. It was part of the like-minded full-length Let the Record Play, issued on RCA in January 2018. After signing with BMG as their main label, they continued to explore a brighter territory with Silver Dream in 2021.
